How Core helps
Integration by parts comes from the product rule for derivatives. If you differentiate u·v, you get u'v + uv'. Rearranging and integrating both sides gives you ∫u dv = uv − ∫v du. It's essentially the product rule run backwards — which is why choosing what to call 'u' and 'dv' matters so much.
